The first part of this post  made me realize that so many people (both female and male) have tried a bunch of remedies on their journey to clear skin.

Stick around, there’s more to share!

1. EGGSHELLS & HONEY: I’m not sure where my friend got this DIY tip from but she shared her latest discovery with me and I was too happy to give it a try. It was supposed to function as a face scrub but it did way more than scrub, it tore my skin because I didn’t have the patience to grind the shells finely neither did I apply correctly. I didn’t bother pursuing this because no acne was worth the scar

Sidebar: I read here that eggshells though mildly abrasive, buffs the skin to remove dead skin layers and reveal clear smooth skin. It has its benefits especially when paired with the right items.

2. SHEA BUTTER (popularly called “ori”): is an unsung hero in my family. My mum would tell us to rub ori on anything and everything that was causing discomfort. Having a cold? Rub ori on your chest and sides. Do your ankles hurt? Ori to the rescue. One time I remember my aunt made us eat ori because it was supposed to do only God knows what. Anyway let’s say the apple didn’t fall far from the tree because how I ended up rubbing ori on my face is beyond me.

Thinking back, I remember how heavy and shiny my face felt after a healthy rub. Let’s just say I was adding insult to injury and it didn’t yield much.

3. NEO MEDROL: At this point I think I was beginning to feel like a big girl. I got yet another recommendation from a good friend who could relate to my struggles. I remember planning towards buying this because it wasn’t exactly cheap at the time. When I eventually did, I used it topically and religiously and it worked like magic. I quickly secured another bottle as soon as I could to avoid stories that touch. By the time I had gone through both bottles, it was either that the price had gone up or I didn’t find it in the store where I’d typically get it. This was a sad ending to our blossoming love affair.

4. BLACK SOAP: this was my beauty elixir for a long time, I must admit that it worked and it worked well. I used black soap along with a few other products from a natural skincare line and it did wonders. People even started asking what my routine was…isn’t life just wonderful? Somehow, I got bored and I wanted to explore something different plus I felt we could attain higher heights with this new found success. Hence my next remedy.

5. CHEMICAL PEEL: I remember the aesthetician asking what my routine was. I looked at her with a blank stare as I wondered did she mean workout routine or eating routine because I wasn’t privy to any other type of routine. Long story short she did a diagnosis, pointed out my problem areas (hyperpigmentation and acne). We started my treatment with dermaplaning and a mandelic peel.

I got a few products to help build my routine which would require me to use my cleanser, toner, serums, moisturizer, and sunscreen. This is a lot of work for someone who used to just rub ori. It didn’t end there, I had to go back a few weeks in between for progress reviews, and on my second review I had to do a Jessner’s peel.

Chemical peel journey

This peel ended up scarring my face especially my jaw area. I started to feel defeated. Random would people ask me if I was involved an accident, one time a fuel attendant had to ask me if all was well lol. I started to wonder if I had done myself more harm than good. I tendered my complaint to the aesthetician and she assured me it was part of the treatment and recommended I did another jessner peel on the affected areas to help even out my skin.

This was such a crazy experience and at first I thought never again, but I know better and I believe my skin is in a much better place.

I recently started following La Beautylogist on Youtube and she shares a lot of helpful information especially tailored to dark skin women.

Regardless, I’ll keep exploring until I find what works perfectly for my skin.

I hope you enjoyed reading.

Having a flawless and glowing face have always been a goal for me. I remember all through nursing school I suffered from severe acne and I was thinking it was the water, a friend said dettol doesn’t work I should use izal…you would think I didn’t use it…I did o..what of when someone suggested my urine, that’s the one I couldn’t try. I am not one who would keep a routine but I can frankly say it now, having a routine helps.. I am still on the journey and THANKYOU for this, knowing I was never alone is comforting….

So that’s how one day ………. Hmmm .
Ok from the beginning my mother was the head of task force on counterfeit and fake drugs .
Let’s just say that sometimes when they raid and seize fake drugs into the night she brings them home to take back to the office the next day .
Yours truly was developing one small zit and now decided to go through the box of fake drugs and some creams promising overnight miracles were calling .
Short story .
Generous amount from a tube produced a very big and painful pimple that has left a nice spot on my nose till today .
LOL

But you’ve got such beautiful skin!!

I use simple cleanse, toner and cream and it has worked just fine at cleaning up most of my dark marks. It is particularly good for people with sensitive skin. I would like to use some form of face mask or scrub at some point… one that’s good for sensitive skin, so if you find something, let me know!!!

Awww thank you Lola! Unfortunately, some days are worse than others and it can get a little daunting.

I have also tried a few products from the Simple range and it was mild.

I’ll be sure to share when I find a face mask or scrub that works well for sensitive sense.

Thank you so much for stopping by.
